Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) is an intensive academic and enrichment program for secondary school students from across Africa. Participants join a six-day Online College Prep Workshop (16–21 July 2026) or a nine-day Residential Leadership Summit in Kenya (8–16 August 2026), learning through Yale-led lectures, seminars, and leadership activities.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be 14–18 years old by the first day of the program.

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of an African country, or a refugee living in an African country.

  • Attend secondary school in Africa.

  • Be in 10th or 11th grade (or equivalent), and not have graduated secondary school yet.

Financial Aid

  • No tuition cost for either program option.

  • For the residential Summit, free housing and meals provided.

  • Travel grants available (need-based) for students living outside Kenya.

  • Networking with young leaders from across Africa.

  • Certificate of completion for both online and residential sessions.
