Full Description
Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) is an intensive academic and enrichment program for secondary school students from across Africa. Participants join a six-day Online College Prep Workshop (16–21 July 2026) or a nine-day Residential Leadership Summit in Kenya (8–16 August 2026), learning through Yale-led lectures, seminars, and leadership activities.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be 14–18 years old by the first day of the program.
Be a citizen or permanent resident of an African country, or a refugee living in an African country.
Attend secondary school in Africa.
Be in 10th or 11th grade (or equivalent), and not have graduated secondary school yet.
Financial Aid
No tuition cost for either program option.
For the residential Summit, free housing and meals provided.
Travel grants available (need-based) for students living outside Kenya.
Benefits
College-prep and leadership curriculum.
Guidance on university admissions and financial aid process.
Networking with young leaders from across Africa.
Certificate of completion for both online and residential sessions.
