Description
Founded in 1927 and named after economist Alfred Marshall — who established Cambridge's Economics Tripos in 1903 — the Marshall Society is the official economics society of the University of Cambridge. It has counted figures like John Maynard Keynes, Nicholas Kaldor, and former Indian PM Manmohan Singh among its historic membership. Today it runs speaker events with prominent economists, networking and career sessions, socials, and its annual Marshall Society Essay Competition, with standout entries published in the society's magazine, The Dismal Scientist.
